Description
The USS Saipan (LHA 2) was a Tarawa-class amphibious assault ship built by Ingalls Shipbuilding. Commissioned in 1977 and decommissioned in 2007, it played a vital role in U.S. military operations. Named after the Battle of Saipan during World War II, the ship's motto, "Omnia Facimus" (We Do It All), reflects its versatility in amphibious warfare. The USS Saipan was sold for scrapping in 2009, with its dismantling completed by February 2011.
