Description
The USS Austin LPD 4, an Austin-class amphibious transport dock, was built at the New York Naval Shipyard and commissioned on February 6, 1965. It was decommissioned on September 27, 2006, and struck from the Naval Register. The ship, named after Austin, Texas, was sold for scrap in 2009 and scrapped in 2010. Its motto, "Potestas Maritimas Per Mobilitate" (Seapower Through Mobility), symbolized its role in naval power projection.
