The USS Augusta SSN 710, a Los Angeles-class attack submarine, was built by General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. Awarded on December 10, 1973, laid down on April 1, 1983, and commissioned on January 19, 1985, it was decommissioned on February 11, 2009. Named after the city of Augusta, Maine, its motto, "Protecting the Frontier Since 1754," symbolizes its enduring commitment to national defense. The submarine was eventually recycled after service.
