Description
The USS Ticonderoga (CG 47) is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, commissioned on January 22, 1983. Built by Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the ship was originally planned as DDG 47 but completed as CG 47. Known as the first Aegis cruiser, it served until decommissioned on September 30, 2004. The USS Ticonderoga honors the capture of Fort Ticonderoga in May 1775.
