USS Gravely (DDG-107): A Legacy of Strength and Service

Commissioned in 2010, the USS Gravely (DDG-107) has served as a powerful symbol of the Navy’s resilience and resolve. As an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, the Gravely was designed to engage in a variety of missions—from surface warfare to anti-air defense, and anti-submarine operations. Named in honor of Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely, the first African American to command a U.S. Navy ship, the ship carries not only a storied legacy but also a continued commitment to the ideals of honor, courage, and dedication.

The Gravely was built to navigate the most complex and dangerous waters. Her modern systems—such as the Aegis Combat System—allowed her to track and destroy incoming threats, making her a vital part of the Navy’s defense strategy. Whether participating in operations across the vast waters of the Atlantic or conducting exercises with international allies, the Gravely exhibited unwavering resolve.

Throughout her service, the Gravely responded to numerous calls for assistance, providing maritime security, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid. As the ship patrolled the world’s oceans, she played a pivotal role in securing vital shipping lanes, countering piracy, and ensuring the protection of American interests abroad. Her rapid response and versatility proved essential during times of conflict and instability.

A reflection of the Navy's strength and resilience, the Gravely continues to inspire the generations who served aboard her and those who will one day take her place on the seas.
